PROJECT BACKGROUND

Project background

As a global retail leader, Walmart's core strategy in the Chinese market is "continuous expansion" and "multi-format synergistic development." Its more than 400 stores and 18 distribution centers across the country form the cornerstone of its business empire. To ensure the operational efficiency of this vast network and drive future growth, Walmart has placed the modernization of its supply chain at a strategic level. This smart warehouse upgrade project is a key step in its efforts to create a more efficient, precise, and cost-effective "future-oriented" logistics system.

Project Pain Points

Inventory and Traffic Challenges: Massive SKUs, huge traffic fluctuations, and extremely complex inventory management.

Stringent Fulfillment Standards: Orders must be shipped out on the same day, with an accuracy rate of 99.99% required.

Heavy Labor Costs: Purely manual picking is costly and error rates are difficult to control effectively.

Solution

This solution first involved a highly focused Proof of Concept (POC) project at Walmart’s Shenzhen distribution center, aiming to test the feasibility of “goods-to-person” robot technology in a real-world environment.

Six robots were deployed in a 200-square-meter simulated work area to execute a complete closed-loop warehousing operation.

This validation covered the entire process from receiving and shelving, replenishment, dynamic inventory counting, to final outbound shipment according to order instructions.

Customer Value

Efficiency Leap: Successfully validated a 3.5x increase in picking efficiency, laying the foundation for accelerating the overall supply chain.

Precision and Reliability: A breakthrough improvement in picking accuracy significantly reduced potential fulfillment error costs.

Model Innovation: Demonstrated the success of the robotic picking model and achieved a significant reduction in employee workload.
